Cavity Wall Insulation:

What is a Cavity Wall?

The external walls of a house are constructed of two layers with a small gap or ‘cavity’ between them. This means they are ‘cavity walls’.

How is Cavity Wall Insulation Carried out?

To insulate the cavity walls the installer will drill small holes from the outside of your home of approximately 22mm diameter, with special equipment they will then blow the insulation into the cavity. The installer will then refill the holes in the brickwork to make sure no mess is left.

How long will it take?

Cavity walls will generally take around two hours to carry out, however this can increase depending on the size of the house and factors such as access to the property.

I use my loft for storage can I still have it insulated?

It is common that people use their loft space for storage, the homeowner can choose to empty their loft so that we can fully insulate it, alternatively they could use a small area of the loft for storage and the loft can be insulated around this area.

I have some spotlights in the ceiling that stick out in the loft space, will this be a problem?

No. The installers will simply work around the lights and leave a gap in the insulation of approximately 2” around the lights so that there is no possibility of overheating.

Will the loft insulation create a mess around the rest of my home?

The installers will work hard to create as little mess as possible by using dust sheets around the areas that they are working, and any messes will be cleared up before leaving the property.
